Our Impact

Following Knowledgebeat's second ever Girls Empowerment Camp in 2009, several girls returned home to their families in Ngoma and asked their fathers to support them in a coalition to prevent older men from dating or marrying the girls.

This extraordinary action set a precedent for the kind of responsibility and initiative and that our team strives to inspire in young girls and boys. Anecdotes such as this one epitomize the kind of systemic of change we are proud to help deliver for thousands of children.

Significant changes in behavior have been documented in all of our communities. The following are a sample of the many initiatives that KnowledgeBeat has fostered:

  • Digging of food pits and building of solar stoves.
  • Increased attendance and performance in school.
  • Community engagement in education through camp programs.
  • Girls started a coalition against early marriage.
  • An entrepreneur group was born.
  • Girls empowerment clubs were formed.
  • Girls returned to school after dropping out due to pregnancies.
  • A tree nursery was established with several hundred seeds planted.
  • Adult reading groups were formed.
  • First scholarship recipients graduated from high school in 2011.
